Lawyer Profile

Oana I. Grant (previously Burdett)

Oana has a thriving practice at our law firm, focused on civil litigation. Her practice is split between personal injury litigation (representing exclusively individuals who have been injured through the negligence of others) and estate litigation (representing individuals who have been disinherited, or executors/beneficiaries who would seek to uphold a Will). Oana advises clients on their personal planning needs (powers of attorney, representation agreements, advance directives, committeeships) and succession plans (wills and trusts), with the goal of ensuring that their wishes are upheld if, upon their incapacity or death, litigation between family members ever arises.

She is privileged to have advocated for her clients at all levels of court in British Columbia, including the Court of Appeal. The forefront of Oana’s mind are always her clients’ interests and as such, she recognizes that in some circumstances, going to trial is not always the only or best way to achieve her clients’ goals.

Oana was born in Brasov, in the Transylvanian region of Romania, and obtained her first (civil) Law degree in 2001 from Babes-Bolyai University. After travelling the world for a few years as a staff member on cruise ships, Oana moved to British Columbia where she obtained a Juris Doctorate in 2011 from the University of Victoria. While studying at UVic and after graduation, Oana volunteered for Pro Bono Students Canada. She also volunteered as the President of the Victoria Chapter of the ALS Society of British Columbia and as a Board member for an educational non-profit association in Victoria, BC. Currently, she is a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia.

Having immigrated to Canada from Romania and after several years of travelling to Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, Oana is very comfortable dealing with clients of all ethnicities. Her deep understanding of different cultures and ages is an asset in communicating in a way her clients understand. In addition to offering legal services in English, she is fluent in Romanian.

Away from the office, Oana enjoys keeping her family active outdoors, traveling and studying holistic nutrition.
